Oxford's Hugo Manuel aka Chad Valley is readying his second full-length release, Entirely New Blue, for release on trusted US indie, Cascine, next month. As its title suggests, the record was penned at a time when Hugo was in the midst of personal turmoil, namely the breakdown of a lengthy relationship. In spite of all this heartbreak, album cut 'Seventeen' actually feels, oddly, sweetly uplifting with its intro of woozy pipes and crackling static vocal effects giving way to a relaxed beat and delicately tended keys. The very essence of 'Seventeen' is lovelorn but when Hugo croons, "I'm much happier than you think," this beautifully, it's easy to believe everything is gonna be just fine. - DC
